Ladies of the Lake Cancer Support Team fundraiser fills LKG Lions Club

One may have thought a heavy downpour and thunderstorms would have kept patrons of the Ladies of the Lake Cancer Support Team’s Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser away from the Lake Gaston Lions Club in Henrico last week. One would have thought wrong as people steadily entered the doors to get their fill of pasta and golf ball-sized meatballs to support the non-profit group’s cause.
The LOL Cancer Support Team financially supports cancer patients in the five Lake Gaston counties. It also contributes to ECU Health North in Roanoke Rapids and VCU at the Hendricks Center in South Hill.
“People in our community are so generous,” LOL team member Marianne West said. “Many purchased tickets to this event for the families of people we have supported so they could come out and have a meal together. Food Lion has gone the extra mile for us, and the Lake Gaston Lions Club was so generous to let us have out event here. This really turned out well.”
West cited Hormel Food Services, Avendra International, and Newport Hospitality Group as other superstar supporters of the LOL Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser.
The Kitchen Table of Gasburg, Virginia, catered the event. Nancy Steiert and Sue Williams met patrons as they entered the building and determined whether they were getting takeout or partaking in their meal at the site.
LOL volunteers assisted with the takeout orders. Those choosing to eat at the club went through a buffet-style line and filled their plates.
Laughter and chatter rang through the air as event patrons came together for a time of fellowship and sharing. The laughter and chatter were only temporarily halted as West addressed the patrons and delivered a heartfelt thank you for their support of the LOL Cancer Support Team’s mission.
The 3rd Annual LOL Cancer Support Team Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser is in the rearview mirror, but the organization has little time for rest. Preparation is already underway for the Annual LOL Cancer Support Team Yard Sale, which will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 14, outside of Norton’s Art Studio in Henrico.

Big changes are coming to the Ladies of the Lake Cancer Support Team’s Third Annual Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser.
“It’s at a new location at the Lake Gaston Lions Club in Henrico,” LOL team member Jane Miller said. “This year we are not having alternating set times. It’s open dining from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on May 14.”
The club’s address is 139 Stanley Road, Henrico, North Carolina. Robin Crabel of The Kitchen Table in Gasburg will prepare the food for the spaghetti dinner. The menu includes spaghetti, meatballs, salad, bread, cookies, and a beverage. Drinks from the bar will also be available for the spaghetti dinner patrons.
